Trouble with your Neon Cowboys Hat? Help us help you.

My Hat Isn't Lighting Up

Here is a list of things to check over when troubleshooting your hat. If you need to reach out to customer service going through this checklist first can help us assess your problem quicker.

As you work through this check list, periodically check if the hat will light up, you most likely will not need to check over every point on this list to find the problem.

Assessing Inverter Problems

Take a look at your inverter, it is the black box that the batteries are in. it has a red light that lights up whenever the lights on that hat are supposed to be lit.

If the red light does not turn on when you turn on the inverter:

  1. Double check that the batteries are put in the right way around.
  2. If the batteries are in the right way around, try putting in some fresh batteries.

If the red light on your inverter lights up but the hat does not you may have a connection issue and will want to check the following:

  1. Check that the connector between the lights and the inverter is secure.
  2. Unlatch the white connector and check the metal pins within to see if they are bent or have come loose. If they are bent or loose, bend the pins to straighten them & re-insert them through the white connector piece. Listen/feel for a light click to verify the pin has been reset and is in place.
  3. Gently pull on the wires coming out from the inverter on the way to the connector to confirm they are secured to the inverter.
  4. Gently pull on the wires leading into the connectors on each side to confirm they are secure in the connector.
  5. Locate the clear/ black rubber covering between the clear wire and the light up part of the hat, While the inverter is on (indicated by the red light turned on) gently twist, turn and wiggle the rubber connection back and forth to see if the wire lights up for a split second.

If it lights up for only a second, then it’s a light wire connection problem & you will need a new hat.

If you went through the previous checklist and the lights never light up, try a replacement inverter to verify if it’s a bad inverter.

What If My Hat is Too Big?

Our Neon Cowboys® Hat may be one size fits most but we understand there is a variety of head shapes and sizes out there, so we include a 1/4 inch self adhesive foam padding with our hats just for this!

Simply cut the padding strip to your desired size, peel off the adhesive backing and adhere it to the inside of the crown as needed.

If the hat is a little loose and wants to rock forward and back, we recommend a little padding in the brow and/or a little in the back of the crown.

If the hat wants to rock from side to side, we recommend a little bit of foam on each side just above or behind the ears.

Some head shapes do best with a little bit of padding on the brow and a little bit of padding on the back on each side. You can always cut the foam padding to make it thinner as well. Don't be afraid to experiment and find what is most comfortable.

Common patterns for attaching the padding on smaller heads include running a padding strip from the back of one ear to the other inside the crown, and sometimes, also a little strip in the brow.

We have even seen toddlers wearing our hats with 2 layers of our foam padding strips wrapped completely around the inside of the crown.

If you find you need more foam padding in a different thickness or color, you can find some at our affiliate link below, or your local hardware store should have some.
